Routing Part II

So routing has been a slow business and I have come across a few hiccups. First of all I am in the process of moving location so time to work on the guitar as been non existent. Secondly I am having issues with the guide on my router. The vices that grab the 'piston' on the guide to keep it in position have rusted. This router was passed down to me from my father and is rather old! You can see evidence of the slipping on the photos. The depth of the routing is just a mess.

This is when the router guide was gripping well enough to make decent headway.

Guide still more or less okay.

Guide is now really NOT okay. You can see the variation in depth, the guide would slip whilst I was routing, giving the multiple level 'ant farm' look.

Here I was fixing a chunk that came off the head of the neck whilst drilling. Oblivious me was unaware of the drill running out of battery - of course the drill doesn't rotate as fast and therefore takes chunks out of the wood. This was a minor 'scar' and easily fixed.

Sorting out the headstock

Ant farm is getting deeper. By this point I've given up on the guide. I even tried to snap the springs that give the guide some tension as to stop the router from slipping upwards. No use. I think it's time I got a router more specific for this job.
