Shaping the body

As the wood came I was able to start shaping the body. The methods used in these pictures are not conventional and if I had my way I would just buy a bandsaw, however I am not rich nor do I have space.

So a handsaw, blue tack and some weights will suffice.

First off I translated the design onto paper, which I cut out to use as a template to draw the shape on. I then cut straight lines using a hand saw to get rid of the majority of material before sanding. I then used a belt sander to shape the sides, and smoothen the rough edges. I will contour the rest of the body when the routing has finished, just so I know how much I can work with when the insides have been cut.
